Punishment Versus Corrections

Schools do not have to punish children in order to correct them.

We can correct children without punishing them.

Children do not need to be spanked, insulted or hurt before we correct them. Corrections can be done without inflicting pain or causing injury.

Today's child is totally different from yesterday's child. What yesterday's child would see and run, today's child would see and go there to find out why.

Yesterday's child does not ask why questions. Whatever they were told they believe that to be true. Today's child would not only ask why. But would want to know why not.

So what we see as grave errors or sin, today's child sees it as adventure. He or she sees adventure as been able to beat the system. They want to outmart the system. They want to know what is in the radio set or television which make people to talk or sing. They want to open the radio or television to look for the people in the radio or television.

A child who absents himself or herself from school may not be just a truant. He or she may be calling for attention. He or she may need some counselling and not canes. He or she may need special assistance. He might be running away from school because of you the teacher. Yes, sometimes we scare the children unknowingly.

Children may not be what we actually think. Their behaviour might be an opportunity for change or counselling.

Always study a behaviour, try and identify the root causes and the immediate causes. Look for workable solutions to help the child.
