Assessment is not about failing learners - it is about understanding learning - Aminuwrites PLC
📝 ASSESSMENT IS NOT ABOUT FAILING LEARNERS — IT IS ABOUT UNDERSTANDING LEARNING.
Many people think assessment is only about tests, exams, and scores.
But true assessment goes far beyond marks on paper.
Assessment is the heartbeat of effective teaching and learning. It helps teachers discover:
✔️ What learners understand
✔️ Where learners are struggling
✔️ How teaching can be improved
✔️ Whether learning objectives are being achieved
A good teacher does not wait until the end of the term to assess learners.
Assessment happens every day through:
📌 Questions and answers
📌 Class discussions
📌 Group activities
📌 Projects
📌 Observations
📌 Homework and quizzes
🎯 Assessment is not meant to punish learners.
It is meant to guide learning, improve performance, and build confidence.
There are different forms of assessment:
📖 Diagnostic Assessment – Finds out what learners already know before teaching begins.
✏️ Formative Assessment – Happens during teaching to monitor progress and provide feedback.
🏆 Summative Assessment – Measures learning at the end of a lesson, term, or programme.
👩🏽🏫 Effective assessment should:
✅ Be fair and learner-friendly
✅ Focus on understanding, not memorization only
✅ Encourage critical thinking and creativity
✅ Provide meaningful feedback
✅ Help every learner improve
The best classrooms are not classrooms where learners fear assessment.
They are classrooms where assessment motivates learners to grow, try again, and succeed.
As teachers, we must move from:
❌ “Assessment to intimidate”
To:
✅ “Assessment to improve learning.”
Remember:
📚 Teaching without assessment is like traveling without direction.
Assessment shows us whether real learning is taking place.
🌍 Every question asked in class is an opportunity to shape a learner’s future.

sample teaching philosophy for a Kg Teacher - AminuWrites Tv
Sample Teaching Philosophy for a Kg Teacher.
Teaching Philosophy: Nurturing Young Minds through Playful Learning
As a kindergarten teacher, my teaching philosophy revolves around creating a warm and stimulating environment where young learners can thrive. I believe that the early years of education are crucial for laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning and development. My philosophy is built on the following principles:
1. Child-Centered Learning:
Kindergarten is a time of exploration and discovery. I recognize that each child is a unique individual with their own interests, abilities, and pace of development. I tailor my teaching to meet the diverse needs of my students, ensuring that they are active participants in their learning journey.
2. Play-Based Education:
Play is the natural language of children. I embrace the idea that play is a powerful tool for learning. I provide a wide range of play experiences that promote creativity, problem-solving, social interaction, and emotional development.
3. Social and Emotional Growth: Kindergarten is a place for young children to develop not only academically but also socially and emotionally. I create a caring and inclusive classroom where students learn to communicate, cooperate, and express their feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
4
. Hands-On Exploration:
I believe that young children learn best through hands-on experiences. I provide opportunities for students to explore the world around them through sensory activities, experiments, and projects that engage their natural curiosity.
5. Literacy and Numeracy Readiness:
While play is at the heart of my teaching, I also introduce early literacy and numeracy concepts in developmentally appropriate ways. These skills are embedded in daily routines and activities, helping students build a strong foundation for future academic success.
6. Parent-Teacher Partnership:
I view parents as essential partners in their child's education. I maintain open and transparent communication with parents, involving them in their child's learning journey and seeking their input and insights.
7. Respect for Diversity:
Every child brings their own cultural and individual background to the classroom. I celebrate and respect these differences, creating an inclusive curriculum that embraces diversity and promotes understanding and tolerance.
8. Growth Mindset:
I encourage a growth mindset in my students, fostering the belief that effort and persistence lead to success. I celebrate their achievements and encourage them to learn from setbacks and challenges.
9. Safety and Well-Being:
The safety and well-being of my students are paramount. I ensure that the classroom is a secure and nurturing space where children feel valued and cared for.
10. Joy of Learning:
Above all, I aim to instill a love for learning in my kindergarten students. I want them to look forward to coming to school each day, excited to explore, discover, and grow.
In conclusion, my teaching philosophy as a kindergarten teacher centers on creating a playful, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. I am dedicated to fostering the holistic growth of each child, helping them build a strong foundation for future success, and nurturing their innate curiosity and love for learning.

How To Stop Yelling in the Classroom? - AminuwritesTv
I must confess.
As a teacher, there was no day I don't yell or shout in the classroom. Sometimes, to prevent this situation, I will resort to the Cane.
And as a parent, hmmmm. Ugh! I can't count.
There are several educators and parents who find it difficult to control their children and hence result to yelling, the use of the cane or in some extreme situation insults.
Children would forever remain complex beings we would have to deal with as educators.
Michael Linsin explains: “When you yell, you train your students to listen to you only when you raise your voice. In other words, they learn that unless you’re shouting, you must not really mean it.”
Yelling is the chief tool that most desperate educators or parents adopt to control children.
Yelling is a costly mistake.
Here is how...
1. Yelling is a Temporal solution to a permanent situation.
Children will only listen to you when you yell. They will always create a situation for you to yell.
2. Yelling begets more yelling.
As you try to yell to control your classroom, you will have to yell over and over again. The children will also yell and create avenues for you to yell since they've seen it is your Habit.
3. Children emulate parents or teachers who yell.
You may be yelling probably because your parents or teachers may have yelled at you.
You don't want to teach your children bad habits.
4. Yelling may increase your chances of getting hypertension or some related health condition.
Research has shown that most people who yell or shout have high chances of becoming hypertensive.
5. Yelling increases the rate of anger.
Continuous yelling would increase the rate of anger in you.
It may lead you to do what you wished you would not do under normal circumstances.
But, in this 21st Century, yelling and shouting do not get result in the classroom. There are Creative Techniques every Educator can use to prevent shouting or yelling in the classroom.
1. The use of Signals.
Creative Educators use signals to prevent yelling in the classroom. There several creative Signalling Techniques you can use as an educator.
Here are some Simple but Creative Signalling Techniques.
1. Repeating of Words or Sentences.
2. Clapping
3. Shaking the Signal (A bottle containing gravels or sand)
4. Quick Silence
2. Setting Classroom Rules
With the help of the learners, design and set effective Classroom Rules. These Rules should be simple. The Facilitator must rehearse the Rules with Learners every day. The Facilitator must also obey these Rules.
The Rules should be placed where every learner would see it without any difficulty.
3. Teach with Teaching & Learning Resources.
Teaching with Resources is a Creative way of minimizing Disruptive behaviours in the classroom.
We must always use TLRs during our teaching bad learning process. Most of the disruptive behaviours in the classroom is as a results of the inability of the learners to understand or comprehend what is being taught in the classroom.
4. Give learners Activities to Perform
Always provide learners with creative activities to perform. These activities should aim at developing certain desirable competencies such collaboration, communication, etc in learners.
Yelling, shouting or nagging has No Place in the 21st Century Classroom. Stop it before it Stops you.
Use Creative Techniques in dealing with today's Classroom Challenges.
Truthfully, in Creative Environment no one should ever yell, yelling is a verbal act of aggression. Aggression and/or violence is the product of an exhausted mind, and its a dead end in regards to productivity.
Don't ever yell or shout because when you yell as a consequence for a behavior, you are either reinforcing or creating an avenue for your learners or children to continue with their behaviour.

children like music but not Noise - AminuwritesTv
PAUSE4EDUCATION
AMINUWRITES TV.
Date: Monday, 5th April, 2021.
Topic: Children like music and not Noise.
Hello,
Hope grace and mercy find you.
It's a holiday.
But, have you thought of this " Why do children remember Lyrics music or scenes in movies but cannot remember what was taught in classroom?"
I decided to understand, this because it is disheartening to teach children and they cannot recollect what was taught.
So I decided to undertake a surgery of a typical Ghanaian Music and Movie.
Here are the things I found.
1. Lyrics (words)
2. Sound
3. Visuals/Pictures/Images
4. Concept and Content
5. Packaging
But, but is there any difference between a teacher and an Artist?
No. We are all the same. A Great Artist is a Great Teacher and a Great Teacher is a Great Artist.
The problem in our schools is that most teachers do not use good and conversational words (Lyrics).
We also do not use sound or Images during our teaching and learning process.
Most of of our lessons are not packaged. They are raw and unattractive.
Children like adults cherished packaged information.
Musicians do not just sing, they plan (Lesson Planning), look for the best sound (Assembling Teaching Resources), submit work for editing (Vetting) and then begin to sell their product (lesson) to their audience (learners).
They value their audience (learners) and therefore take pain in planning and the choice of content.
If the music flops they don't blame market (children). They look for solutions and come back with better one or a remix of the old one.
So, please it is time you teach like the musician or an Artist.
Children like songs. Children love images. Children love music.
Be the teacher you would like for yourself and children.
Thank you.

Who tied the teacher's hand? - AminuWritesTv
Pause4Education
AminuWritesDaily Broadcast.
Topic: Who tied the Teacher's Hands?
Hope grace and mercy find you.
In this discussion we would be looking at the topic : Who tied the Teacher's Hands?
Most of the things we use to do in schools such as hitting, spanking, caning, etc have all been banned in Ghanaian schools.
This situation has left most teachers handicapped when it comes to training children.
Some believe that their hands have been tied and therefore cannot do anything. So it is a common sight these days to see children with long nails, overgrown hair, bleached skin, sexy school uniforms, etc.
But, can we blame the teachers? May be yes. But, I think it's No.
Yes because, at least to the best of my knowledge every school has at least a copy (Soft copy/Hard Copy) of Positive Discipline Tools designed by the Guidance and Counseling Division of the Ghana Education Service.
But, No because most teachers have little or No information on the Positive Discipline Tools.
Children need to be trained, coached and mentored.
Today's child is totally different from yesterday's child. Our punishment and corrections strategy must also change to meet the 21st Century training needs of our children.
We, must not sit and watch these kids deteriorate. Get a copy of the Positive Discipline Tools from your Headteacher or School Improvement Support Officer, or the District Guidance and Counseling Coordinator to abreast yourself with modern and tested correction and punishment strategies for the 21st Century Child.
Thank you.

Parenting 1.0 - AminuWritesTv
#Pause4Education
#AminuWritesDailyBroadcast.
Date: Tuesday, 16th March, 2021.
Topic: Parenting 1.0
Hope grace and mercy find you.
In this discussion we would be looking at another episode of parenting.
We must abreast ourselves with certain skills and experience to train the 21st Century Child.
We cannot continue to train and nurture today's generation the way we were taught.
The Rod today may not be the same Rod we were trained with. Today's Rod may be kind words, Positive Discipline Tools, etc.
We must brace ourselves for the task ahead. The task ahead is uncertain. But, I can guarantee you this - your children would blow your mind.
Everything is changing and would continue to change. Society today does not see punishment as an exercise of inflicting pain on children.
They see punishment as a corrective mechanism bucked by love, compassion, kind words and examplary life.
We cannot behave in a certain way and expect our children to behave the other way. Those days of do as I say and Not What I do is gone forever.
We must not loose sight of the fact that what today's child can do, yesterday's child has no idea.
Let us continue to learn modern ways of parenting whiles we say good bye to archaic and antiquated parenting techniques that we have grown to learn.
Read the following extract on the UN Convention on the Rights of Children.
The Convention recognizes that parents have the primaryr role in bringing up children. Parents are their children’s most important teachers, role models and guides. But parents are not their children’s owners. Human rights principles guarantee that no person may be the property of another.
Thank you.

The Structure of the Kindergarten Curriculum
In this discussion we will dwell on the New Kindergarten Structure.
Firstly, teaching in the KG has become interesting due to the introduction of this current curriculum.
The problem however, is most KG teachers are not aware of this or they were not adequately trained on the KG Curriculum.
First things first, the KG Curriculum is an integration of all the subjects curriculum in the primary school. A facilitator may have to look for some information in the primary school curriculum if he or she finds the one in the KG Curriculum insufficient.
The Following are the expected Pedagogies to be used in the Primary School.
1. The Thematic Approach
2. Play - based methods
3. Learner Centred Methods
4. Inquiry/Discovery Methods
For more information on the above consult the KG Resource Pack Page 20 - 25.
At the KG, the Time Table is actually a Daily Plan. This Daily Plan composed of
1. Self Registration System
2. Circle Time
3. Group Activity (Indoor/Outdoor)
4. Learning Centers
5. Story Sharing
6. Phonics Time
Self Registration
This is the system of registration where learners are allowed to register themselves in class. This system allows learners to move and participates in the class activity. It is after this that the teacher marks the register without calling names.
Circle Time
This is the time the Facilitator teaches the Lesson as is contained in the Learning Plan. Learners may sit in a circle, or Semi Circle or in a Horse Shoe formation.
Group Activity (Indoor/Outdoor)
During this period learners are put in groups to perform several activities in Numeracy, Language and Literacy, and Creative Arts. Facilitators can do this both inside and outside the classroom.
Learning Centres
Every facilitator is expected by this curriculum to create Learning Centres in the Classroom. A Learning Centre is a special placed dedicated in the classroom or in a special room for the purpose of teaching certain concepts or skills. So instance, you can create Home Centre, Reading Centre, Music Centre, Arts Cente, etc.
Phonics Time
This is the time the Facilitator is expected to teach Phonics. The recommended Approach so far is the Jolly Phonics Approach.
You can follow these links for more ....
You can can download resources on the Jolly Phonics by following the links......
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=come Gilberto tjolly.teachphonics.teachers
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rabie_mohamed.jolly
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=come
This means that, we need to set up our classroom to achieve such a target. This therefore means that every teacher should set up his or her classroom, so that children can learn consciously or unconciously. For inspiration on how to to set up your classroom search for #konnectclassroom on Facebook. You can also Call or Whatsapp: 233278017492 on how to Set Up your Classroom.
Story Sharing
This is the last session of the day. The Facilitator is supposed to give short but interested stories to learners. These stories may be contained in a book, or drawn on Charts and pasted in the Classrooms. Facilitators may wear special costumes during story telling periods. These stories may be in both Ghanaian Language and English Language.
See how Teacher Gena dressed during Story Sharing...https://www.facebook.com/237442986772606/posts/685136285336605/?app=fbl

How well do we know our learners?
A girl by name Fatima went to school in the neighbouring village where she wasn't known well.
For three weeks, she came to school late and every time the teacher punished her.
On the fourth week, Fatima didn't attend school at all and many thought she had *GIVEN UP* on school due to the everyday punishment.
However, Fatima reported again on fifth week and this time she came earlier than everybody.
When the teacher came to class, Fatima was punished for not attending school the previous week but the teacher was also kind enough to commend her for coming early that day, stating that the punishments had finally yielded some results.
Just then, Fatima asked if she could say something and the teacher gave her permission.
*She started :*
_"I've been raised up by a single mother without a brother or a sister. Five weeks ago, my mother fell ill and was hospitalized. The three weeks I came late, I had to prepare something for her every morning and pass by the hospital to deliver the same. Unfortunately, mother passed away last week and that's the reason I didn't come to school. We buried her last Friday. Today I came early since I didn't have to prepare anything or even pass by the hospital. And now that she is gone, I will always be here early''_
As she sat down, no one in the whole class was able to hold their tears, the teacher was not spared either.
How well do we know our learners. We should go beyond knowing the names of our learners. We should know their names, their parents, their local communities, their hobbies, dreams, fears, likes and dislikes, etc.
We should go beyond the ordinary. Ordinary teachers just know their learners' name and class performance.
We all have issues that we have to deal with. So do the children we teach.
That is why the rule of natural justice demands that we give fair hearing. But teachers should apart from giving fair hearing, apply judgements based on compassion.
So next time your learner, misbehave, just don't start rebuking him or her, but apply compassion.
