How well do we know our learners?
The story of Fatima is a wake up call for all teachers and people who deal with children.
A girl by name Fatima went to school in the neighbouring village where she wasn't known well.
For three weeks, she came to school late and every time the teacher punished her.
On the fourth week, Fatima didn't attend school at all and many thought she had *GIVEN UP* on school due to the everyday punishment.
However, Fatima reported again on fifth week and this time she came earlier than everybody.
When the teacher came to class, Fatima was punished for not attending school the previous week but the teacher was also kind enough to commend her for coming early that day, stating that the punishments had finally yielded some results.
Just then, Fatima asked if she could say something and the teacher gave her permission.
*She started :*
_"I've been raised up by a single mother without a brother or a sister. Five weeks ago, my mother fell ill and was hospitalized. The three weeks I came late, I had to prepare something for her every morning and pass by the hospital to deliver the same. Unfortunately, mother passed away last week and that's the reason I didn't come to school. We buried her last Friday. Today I came early since I didn't have to prepare anything or even pass by the hospital. And now that she is gone, I will always be here early''_
As she sat down, no one in the whole class was able to hold their tears, the teacher was not spared either.
How well do we know our learners. We should go beyond knowing the names of our learners. We should know their names, their parents, their local communities, their hobbies, dreams, fears, likes and dislikes, etc.
We should go beyond the ordinary. Ordinary teachers just know their learners' name and class performance.
We all have issues that we have to deal with. So do the children we teach.
That is why the rule of natural justice demands that we give fair hearing. But teachers should apart from giving fair hearing, apply judgements based on compassion.
So next time your learner, misbehave, just don't start rebuking him or her, but apply compassion.

Time to reduce the Stress
Many schools are trying hard and increasing workload of teachers with the hope that it will increase performance.
This will only increase rote learning and memorization of facts. It will also results in schools passing examination and yet getting their graduate into the Unemployment line.
We should not allow examination to be the only yardstick for success or teacher performance.
Every year, SPAM is organised in schools that did not perform in the Examinations. Government pride itself for doing better that its predecessor in education when the examination results is better as compared to the previous year's.
Passing Examination is not the main aim of Education.
Teachers and school heads do everything humanly possible, and even impossible just to make their students pass an external examinations. But, do we blame them? No. I don't think so. We have made the system that way.
Schools lack the necessary materials for teaching and learning and yet, teachers are pressurized to produce better examination results.
The sooner you, me, parents and indeed government realises that education is not synonymous with passing an examination, the better it will be for all of us.
Teachers should not be coerced into bringing out examination experts and passers.
So the next PTA Meeting, SMC Meeting and SPAM in our schools and communities should not focus solely on the examination results.
We should stop labelling some schools and teachers as non performing schools or teachers just because their students did not pass an examination. Schools should be allowed to develop the human faculty. Teachers should be allowed to mould the next generation of leaders.
The next generation would not depend on examination results to be employed. High GPAs are no longer the qualification for employment.
Teachers should be allowed to focus on developing innovative, resourceful, resilient, creative and highly skilled individuals, for the future.
Examination is just another waste of time in the developments of the child.
Many dreams have been shuttered due to failure in an examination. We should not continue this way.
Why should we continue ripping our country with the best individuals just because they failed in an examination.
Why do we forced every child in Ghana to study Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies and English Language? Why? Why should you get a certain grade before pursuing a particular occupation. Why should we forced our children at the universities and colleges to learn subjects and concepts they may never used in real world? Why should we force every child in the Primary School to memorize the "Times Table" or multiplication table? What crime have the children done?
We need total shift in our mindset.
Schools should be resourced with enough and adequate materials to make teaching and learning activity based.
This is what I believe would save the next generation.

Don't keep long
'Don't be late!' This is an admonishing most teachers are familiar with. Teachers usually issue this command when children are going out for Recess or Break.
Children in an attempt to avoid wrath of the teacher on their two innocent buttocks, will not eat their favorite food, refresh and converse among themselves.
The resultant effect is that whatever the children have been taught will not be well assimilated.
Health facilities these days are recording record - high Stress Related Diseases among school going children.
We must at all times ensure that children are giving ample time to rest and get refreshed.
We must not as teachers or educators encroach upon the time our children have to rest and get refreshed.

let us honour our heroes
Great genius from Ghana have make names across the globe. You travel outside the country and these names are mentioned with respect due to what they have achieved in various field. We however do not even see such men and women. We only eulogies them during their
death. It is only during their death that we hear all their good works and even name them after monuments. It is in this regard that I salute Mrs. Amissah Arthur who in a tribute to her late husband took the bull by the horn by asking society that "If my husband is as good as you are describing him why did you wait till his death?"
We as a society must begin to honour our heroes whiles they are alive. We should begin to eschew this hypocrisy and honour our heroes.
I was very sad to hear that the late Professor John Evans Attah Mills of blessed memory was a consultant in the drawing of an economic policy for the United State of America.
Do you know that the legendary and late J.H. Mensah was part of several economic transformation across the globe. Our own Anas Arimeyaw Anas is part of the Aljazera team. Do you also know that most schools in the United State of America are studying and practicising Azonto Dance, a dance by Ghana's Fastest Rapper Sarkodie.
Please it is time we start honouring our leaders. Honour even your chiefs, outstanding students, our religious leaders and our musicians who are making us provide.
Please permit me to salute the likes of Nana Agradaa, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, Ibrahim Mahama, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Rev Obofour, Bishop Angel Obinim, Ex. President John Dramani Mahama, Bishop Mensa Otabil, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom,
Vice President Mahamdu Bamuwia, Bola Ray, Kweku Sintim Misa, Uncle Ebo White, etc.
Let us honour them before they pass away and pour wonderful tribute on them.

Choose Wisely!
The only creature that has the power to Choose is the human being. Where you are today is as a result of some choices you made yesterday. To succeed tomorrow, then check out the choices you are making
today, since it will be the fruit you will reap tomorrow.
There are series of things you need to observe before making any choice.
WHAT IS IN IT FOR ME?
Imagine you buying something or investing your time and money in something that may destroy your future. Weigh the consequences of your choices and the steps you are taking. This principle of what is in for me is the first step toward achieving success. Before you take out money from your pocket, it is important to ask the obvious question which requires you to examine what you are about to purchase and see whether it is really beneficial or just for satisfying your human desire.
DO I REALLY NEED IT?
About 70% of the things we buy, are not the things we really need. The technological products we buy, the clothing we buy, our shoes, etc are things we don't necessarily need. As you part money to buy things you need, you are actually buying and promoting someone's idea or brand. A car loses its value immediately you drove out of the garage. Never enlist cars as part of your investment unless you are establishing a transport company. The car price depreciates as the years go by.
INVEST YOUR TIME IN YOURSELF
Time is one of the most precious commodity available to man. It is only time that is available to the rich and the poor, the young and the old, the man and the woman, etc. If you invest in it in a profitable venture you stand to gain in the nearest future. The time available toyou today, how you use it will affect your future life. Try waking up early and sleeping late. Invest the first 2 hours before going to work on establishing contact with your creator and reading a material on your job. PLAN
HOW WOULD YOU WANT TO SEE YOURSELF THE TOMORROW?
Write down how you wish to see yourself. Describe what you would be exactly. The problem with most of us is that we don't know waht exactly we would like to be. Start living the life you wish to live live in the future. Dress, walk, talk and start behaviour exactly how you wish. The future will automatically be realized in your present life. Live the tomorrow you've always dreamt of today. Are you choosing debt or credit? The item or service you are eager to buy or subscribe to will it increase your financial position or it will diminish it. For instance if you purchase a car for personal use, the following must also be taken care of.
i. the maintenance fee (routine)
ii. the insurance cover
iii. fuel fee
iv. road worthy fee v. accident fee
vi. washing fee
vii. Tollbooth fee
viii. Police Inspection fee
All the fees will cause money to be taken out of your resources. The only benefit you may derive from this car is comfort and ease. Mr. Smith, was given a car by his client and he rejected it. He thanked the client, but refused to take the offer. When the client inquired, he told him that he was not rejecting the car, but he is rejecting the additional cause to his financial woes. The client then replied, "but Sir, I am not taking any money from you. It is absolutely free" Mr. Smith quickly told him it is not Free. You have just increase your financial empire by giving out a liability.

How Mobile Phones Are Draining Our Pockets?
According to all the telecom companies over 15 million Ghanaians own mobile handset. One cannot finish enumerating the enormous roles of the mobile handset in our lives. But as the saying goes someone's meat is another poison. The wise are using the mobile handset to increase and make money.
About 80% of mobile handset users are only draining their pockets and ruining their future. You can make money with your handset. This piece is not to condemn
the use of mobile handset. This is only to show you how the telecom companies are draining your pockets.

Free calls
Free Calls though good, causes great health hazards on the user. This Free Calls policy make callers speak on the phone over a long time. This causes ear problem in both the immediate and the near future.
Free Calls is one of the greatest time wasters. The time spent can be used judiciously to create wealth. Have you ever quantify the amount of time you spend in making free calls. Can't you use the same time in a viable venture?
Free After One
Almost all the telecom companies are adopting this strategy. This policy allows the caller pay ¢0.20p for the first minute per call. One thing about this policy, is that, unknowingly, to the caller, it encourages the caller to make more calls.
Let us assume Mr. X is a subscriber to this policy and on average he makes five calls a day. This simply means Mr. X will have to purchase ¢30.00 worth of credits a month. This means he will be spending ¢360.00 annually for making calls. If Mr. X continues this way for the next five years it means he would have to pay ¢1,800.00 just on making calls. Can you imagine what this same amount could do if he had been invested in a profitable venture? You can clearly see that you are the
architect of your poverty. Reduce your calls today and increase your wealth in future. Before you make any call, weigh its importance or relevance. Group your calls into asset and liability. Use your calls to create wealth. Your debt stock can reduce drastically if you reduce your calls by just 1%. Practice reducing your calls and check your asset portfolio.
Data bundle
Data bundle is the easiest way to give away money freely.
Your aim of bundling your data is to save cost, at least thats what the telehost advises. The truth of the matter is that when you bundle, it doesn't give you the license to use your data any how. A bundled data could finish before the due date.
Bundled Data is money. Anytime you switch on your data, remember you have open the flood gate increase your misery in future. Purchase data only when you want to develop yourself or increase your wealth. If you disagree with me, then let us do the following calculations. Mr. X bought ¢5.00 data which was used up just for a week. He used the data on social media, downloading music files, video files and other images which has nothing to do with his career or personal
developments. If he continues this practice in the next five years it means, he would have spent ¢1,200. (Breaking it down: ¢5.00 * 4 = ¢20.00 - Per month. ¢20.00 * 12 = ¢240.00 - Per Year. For the next five years - ¢240.00 * 5 = ¢1,200.00)
Borrowed Airtime
There are situations where one is allowed to credit airtime and pay later.
The problem with this strategy is that you pay with interest wherever you want to pay for your debt. Remember this: you cannot cheat the telecom companies. Purchase the airtime instead. This will save you money.
Caller Ring Tone
All the telecom companies have activated this option for interested subscribers. Though a very good avenue for advertisement, most of us, use it for entertainment.
Some of the telecom companies will charge even if the phone had been off for a month. On average ¢0.50 is charged on subscribers. This will amount to ¢0.50 * 12 = ¢6.00 per year.
If the subscriber continues this for the next five years it will amount to ¢30.00.
